F i-SOTP
The programme focuses specifically on offences relating to the downloading of child abuse images from the internet.
Programme aims:
- To reduce the risk of future internet-related sexual offending targeting children by adult offenders
Who is suitable?
Male offenders who: -
- are convicted of an internet-related sexual offence or sexually-motivated offence, including non-contact sexual offences
- are assessed as low deviance and as low, medium or high risk
- are aged 21 or over
- are within the normal IQ range
- are assessed as suitable for the programme in a court ordered report prior to sentence or by the offender manager prior to release on licence
Who is not suitable?
- Female sexual offenders
- Very high risk offenders and high deviance offenders [should be referred to the TVSOGP]
- Sex offenders with an IQ of less than 80
- Men with severe drug/alcohol misuse behaviour
- Men with current mental health problems
- Men assessed as psychopathic
- Men in total denial of their sexual offending
The programme involves:
- Assessment by psychometric measures for deviancy and to determine which blocks of the programme need to be undertaken
- Structured pre-groupwork to build on an offender’s motivation to follow the programme
- Delivery can be on a group work or ‘one to one’ basis. Areas may choose to opt to deliver either or both formats; in the latter instance, the assessed needs of the individual offender will determine which format is appropriate. Programme duration is dependent on the format and the rate of delivery.
- Group work requires 35 sessions, each of 2 hours, over 4 to 9 months
- One to one requires 20 to 30 sessions, each of 90 minutes duration, usually spanning 5 to 8 months
